Apprenticeship and Internship Programs

We offer a variety of apprenticeship and internship programs throughout many departments across Main Line Health. These programs do not require any formal experience and are designed to help you seamlessly enter a career at Main Line Health upon program completion. Since these applications open and close throughout the year, we ask you to submit your interest. Upon completion, a member of our talent acquisition team will reach out closer to when applications begin to open.

Apprenticeship and internship opportunities 

Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Apprenticeship Program

Ready to join our team of Sterile Processing experts? The heartbeat of the hospital, these unsung heroes work behind the scenes to ensure positive outcomes and patient safety. If you are detail-oriented and interested in healthcare, then the SPD apprenticeship program might be a great place for you. No previous experience is required. The 13-week Apprenticeship program is offered twice per year, in April and October. The application opens in January for the April cohort, and in August to be considered for the October cohort.

Patient Care Technician (PCT) Apprenticeship Program

Our PCT Apprenticeship program is a hands-on learning experience designed for individuals who are passionate about entering the healthcare field but might not have the experience to start. It's an opportunity for you to get your foot in the door, to learn directly from experienced PCTs in a supportive and nurturing environment. No previous healthcare experience is needed — just a willingness to learn and a commitment to caring for others. This 8-week program is offered three times throughout the year. The next cohort starts July 2024.

Certified Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship Program

Our Certified Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship Program is the perfect step for you to jump-start a rewarding career. Ideal candidates are those who bring a bundle of motivation and enthusiasm to the table and welcome new challenges as they come. If you are a strong communicator who cherishes forming impactful connections with patients and brings warmth and understanding into every interaction, we're looking for you!

This program is offered twice per year — in January and July — with the application process opening in April and October respectively. We've nurtured numerous healthcare professionals through our program, each of them making strides in their career backed by the strength of our training and support.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Apprenticeship Program

As an EMT, every day brings the opportunity to save lives and provide solace in moments of uncertainty. It's a career that demands quick critical thinking and the ability to act with confidence under pressure. It's about being calm in the storm for those facing perhaps the worst day of their lives.

Whether you see this as the culmination of your calling or a springboard to further healthcare professions such as paramedicine, nursing, or respiratory therapy, our program is structured to support your ambitions.

Following a collegiate rhythm, this program offers two cohorts every year — one in the fall and another in the spring. With a legacy of preparing compassionate, competent EMTs, our program stands as a testament to our commitment not just to healthcare, but to the nurturing and development of those ready to make a difference.

Cyber Security Apprenticeship Program

Are you ready to make a difference in the world of cyber security? Once every two years, we open our doors to a new group of apprentices, inviting them to take part in a journey of learning, growth, and significant community impact. Our program is not just about building technical skills; it’s about nurturing compassionate professionals who are ready to protect and serve in the digital realm. You will embark on a path that requires dedication, initiative, and a continuous thirst for knowledge. From this program, our apprentices have not only advanced in their careers but have also left a lasting positive impact on the communities we serve. Our commitment to developing the next generation of cyber security professionals is unwavering. We stand by our track record of nurturing talents and providing a supportive environment where every apprentice can thrive.

Information Security Internship

In a world where digital safety and security are paramount, our Information Security Internship program, facilitated by our Information Services Team, offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Starting every May and concluding in mid-August, with the application opening each February, this program is a stepping stone for individuals driven by a passion for safeguarding communities and making a tangible difference.

At the core of our program, we look for more than just skills; we seek out individuals who are driven to excel and possess a deep-rooted passion for serving others. Join us in paving a way towards a safer, more secure tomorrow.

Social Work Internship Program

Are you on your journey through a social work degree, either at the undergraduate or graduate level, from a CSWE accredited institution? Our Social Work Internship is designed for students aiming to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. This program promises a blend of learning, growth, and real-world impact. You are someone motivated by the challenges and rewards of social work and has a heart full of empathy.

Social Work Practicums are available starting in the fall semester and run through the end of the spring semester. For some BSW programs, students may onboard for a single semester. Social Work Practicum opportunities will be available year-round to give students flexibility.

For the fall practicum, the application opens March 1 and closes on April 30. You will be notified of your acceptance by July 31.

For the spring practicum, the application opens in September and closes in November. You will be notified in December of your acceptance to prepare for the spring practicum starting in January.

High school internships

We offer summer internship opportunities for any high school student that is at least 16 years of age. This is a great opportunity to explore your interest in healthcare over your summer break. You may submit your interest any time as we accept applications year-round. More details are provided and any applications usually open in the early spring every year.

College Externship Program

We offer summer opportunities for any undergraduate college student that has an interest in healthcare. These opportunities can be extended during any college breaks so please inform us when submitting your interest. We accept interest year-round. Any open applications will be shared on this page when they become available.

Summer Enrichment Program

The Summer Enrichment Program is a 10-week paid internship that connects diverse students pursuing advanced health-related degrees with experienced administrators and other health care professionals who serve as preceptors and mentors.
