About
Main Line HealthCare, formerly Great Valley Health, Inc., was incorporated in 1987. In August 1995, Main Line HealthCare began to structure the physician primary care network aligned with Main Line Health, Inc. Its purpose was to develop and manage a dynamic network of primary care physicians comprised of family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology and pediatric practices that would become a benchmark network.
The Main Line Health System includes four acute care hospitals — Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital — as well as one of the nation's premier facilities for rehabilitative medicine, Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, Mirmont Treatment Center, outpatient centers, home care services, physician practices, a research institute and a host of other facilities and services.
Within the last several years, Main Line HealthCare has added specialists to enhance the scope of services available and provide even more comprehensive care. Now a dynamic network of multi-specialty physician practices, Main Line HealthCare represents leading physicians in the Philadelphia area committed to providing exceptional health care and patient service.
Main Line HealthCare continues to grow and promote its physicians' connection to the Main Line Health System, reinforcing its strategic importance to the System and enabling Main Line HealthCare to develop a network in harmony with ongoing Main Line Health System initiatives. The goal of Main Line HealthCare is to create and communicate a brand that conveys exceptional quality throughout the communities it serves and have a positive impact on the future of the organization and Main Line Health.

Main Line HealthCare (MLHC) is Main Line Health’s employed 500 physician, 220 advanced practice provider (NP, PA, CNM) multi-specialty network. Another 900 employees support our providers in delivering high quality, accessible, and compassionate care in 38 different specialties, with 102 offices located primarily in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. Our physicians provide medical care in conjunction with Main Line Health’s (MLH) acute-care hospitals: Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr, Paoli and Riddle hospitals.

Is it a solo or group practice?
There are advantages and disadvantages to both. At a group practice you may see different physicians and have an easier time scheduling appointments. A solo practitioner will treat you on every visit but might have another physician see you on weekends or in an emergency.
Is the office convenient to your home or workplace?

Be sure you understand your insurance coverage. What coverage is provided for preventive care? For physical exams? For vaccines? What co-pays or deductibles apply?

Once you've narrowed down the field, you should set up an appointment to sit down and talk one-on-one to the physician for an initial evaluation. Don't wait until someone in the family is sick; do it right away. Bring your written questions and feel free to ask them. What it comes down to, finally, is whether you and the doctor have the right chemistry. You want someone in whom you can trust and confide and someone who has the patience and the time to explain a complicated situation simply and clearly, to make it understandable.
