Lankenau Medical Center November 21, 2014 News Releases

On November 11, 2014, the Women’s Heart Initiative hosted The delicious side of heart healthy, where attendees learned how to live a heart-healthy lifestyle without sacrificing fun. The Women’s Heart Initiative is Lankenau Heart Institute’s unique women’s heart program. The program engaged more than 225 women to take charge and learn about living a heart healthy lifestyle.

Janet Bond Brill, PhD, a nationally-recognized cardiovascular nutritionist, health and fitness expert and published author, spoke to attendees about ways to balance a heart-healthy diet with the foods they want to eat. The Food Network’s Katie Cavuto, MS, RD and was also on hand with a healthy cooking demonstration. The program included sessions on the importance of vitamins for women’s heart health presented by Lisa Beth Freedman, MD, a show and tell of the daVinci Surgical System by Lankenau’s Chief of Cardiac Surgery Francis Sutter, DO, a demonstration by the skin care experts Aveeno and Neutrogena on keeping your skin looking young and healthy and blood pressure and body mass index health screenings. A panel discussion rounded out the program and featured MLH Cardiologist Andrea Becker, MD; Gynecologist Beverly Vaughn, MD; Endocrinologist Meg Ryan, MD; and Dermatologist Michele Ziskind, MD.

Attendees were overwhelmingly positive about the evening’s activities: “I wanted to express how terrific the program was last night. The food was wonderful and the panel was excellent.” “This event demonstrates Main Line Health’s commitment to keeping our community healthy.” “My guest was quite impressed with her first visit to Lankenau, with expert doctors on hand to answer questions. The community is very fortunate to have this available.”

The recipes shared by Dr. Janet Bond Brill and Katie Cavuto are available online in the recipes section of the Well Ahead Community.
