Pharmacy Practice at Lankenau Medical Center
About us
The pharmacy department consists of a central pharmacy on the ground level with multiple satellites throughout the hospital. Our institution utilizes a decentralized automatic dispensing system (Pyxis) model, which provides each patient area Pyxis system(s) in order to create a more efficient workflow. In addition, we utilize EPIC as the primary electronic health record and computerized physician order entry.
As part of the healthcare team, we offer many pharmacy services including, but not limited to, vancomycin dosing per pharmacy, IV to PO conversion and auto-renal dosing adjustment protocols, medication reconciliation, transitions of care, warfarin dosing management, and interdisciplinary rounding. In addition to the clinical staff pharmacists, we have pharmacists that are clinical specialists in areas such as critical care, infectious diseases, transition of care and emergency medicine. Furthermore, our preceptors are committed to providing excellent patient care and fulfilling learning experiences. Many are Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialists (BCPS) and some have Teaching Certification from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.
The Post Graduate Year One (PGY-1) pharmacy residency program at Lankenau Medical Center (LMC) provides residents with effective and well-rounded learning experiences that are vital for patient care. Throughout the year, pharmacy residents will be a part of various clinical specialties including critical care, internal medicine, and infectious diseases, etc. Within each learning experience, residents will have multiple opportunities to provide pharmacy services, such as drug therapy management and direct patient interaction. Pharmacy residents will receive comprehensive training from various healthcare providers, exceptional preceptors and mentors, and will be presented with multiple teaching opportunities through a teaching certification program.
Purpose
PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for post-graduate year two (PGY-2) pharmacy residency training.

All candidates must register and apply through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) and participate in the ASHP Residency Matching Program.

- Two (2) candidates are selected each year for the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Lankenau Medical Center
Residency eligibility
- Registered with PhORCAS and ASHP Residency Matching Program
- Well-rounded academic and professional record
- Demonstrate desire for professional development and learning
- Graduated from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college of pharmacy
- Eligible for pharmacist licensure in Pennsylvania (residents MUST be licensed by September 30th of the residency year)
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Licensure verification
Residents will provide the department a copy of their pharmacy licensure certificate to remain on file during the resident’s year at Lankenau Medical Center. Failure to obtain appropriate licensure within 90 days of starting the residency (September 30th), will result in termination of employment.

PGY-1 pharmacy residency program at LMC is a 12-month long, fulltime commitment. After the orientation and training period, each resident will rotate through all core learning experiences and select 3 elective learning experiences of preference.

Salary
The residents will receive a stipend of $58,000.00.
