Surgery to create a more feminine chest shape
Feminizing "top" surgery involves surgical techniques used to enhance the size, shape, or fullness of the breasts in people who were assigned male at birth and desire a more feminine-appearing chest. While estrogen stimulates some breast development, the amount of growth may not be satisfactory for some people.
The most common technique for feminizing top surgery is implant-based breast augmentation. Other techniques involve transfer of fat or other tissue from another part of the body to the chest; however, fat and tissue transfer techniques are less commonly done.
Implant-based breast augmentation
For implant-based breast augmentation, saline or silicone implants can be used. To insert the implant, the surgeon makes an incision under the breast and creates a pocket, either above or below the chest wall muscle, to hold the implant in place. The surgeon will select the best location of the implant based on a person's unique anatomy and the size and type of the implant.
While there are anatomic restrictions that limit the maximum implant size, you will have a sizing appointment before surgery to discuss your desired appearance.
