The speech and language department at Riddle Hospital located in Media, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia, has speech-language pathologists who specialize in adult outpatient speech pathology evaluation and treatment.
Our services include speech-language therapy for conditions such as aphasia, apraxia and dysarthria, as well as cognitive communication therapy in relation to traumatic brain injury, stroke, or any change in mental status. Our experts can also help with speech, voice and dysphagia (swallowing disorders) related to head and neck cancer, with treatments such as electrolarynx training and esophageal speech, and other forms of augmentative communication.
Additional services include:
- Functional communication training
- Fluency management
At Riddle Hospital we also perform video fluoroscopic swallowing studies, also referred to as modified barium swallow studies, which are available on an inpatient as well as outpatient basis. They are conducted in conjunction with Riddle Diagnostic Imaging to assist in the diagnosis of swallowing disorders, which can result in dehydration, malnutrition, and pneumonia.
All services are provided by ASHA-certified and Pennsylvania-licensed speech-language pathologists. Assessment and treatment programs are individualized and tailored to meet the needs of each patient. We also place special emphasis on family education and involvement in the therapy process to produce the best possible outcomes.
