Board certified since 2001
Dr. Columbo graduated from the University of Naples Federico II School of Medicine, Italy. At the same institution, he was later an assistant professor (tenure) in the department of medicine for more than eight years. While in Italy, Dr. Columbo became a certified specialist in allergy and clinical immunology as well as in rheumatology. In the U.S., he completed a residency program in internal medicine at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, became board-certified in this specialty, and re-certified in 2009. Dr. Columbo spent more than six years in the allergy and clinical immunology division of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. There he performed research as a research fellow and visiting assistant professor and returned to complete his clinical fellowship. Dr. Columbo is board certified in Allergy and Immunology and re-certified in 2011 and 2021. Dr. Columbo has been in private practice locally since 2000 .He is a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He is the System Chief of Allergy and Immunology at Main Line Health. Dr. Columbo has co-authored 107 publications mainly focused on the mechanisms of allergy. He has been a speaker at many international conferences and received numerous research grants and awards. Dr. Columbo has initiated several clinical research projects that have received support from a local non-profit foundation. He is a reviewer for several medical journals. Dr. Columbo is the founder and president of the Philadelphia Allergy Alliance and a past president of the Philadelphia Allergy Society. He is a member of the Main Line Health Institutional Review Board and the scientific committee of the Sharpe-Strumia Research Foundation. He has been named a Top Doctor by the Philadelphia Magazine, Main Line Today, and the Delaware Valley Consumers' Checkbook.
